For athletes, potency matters.
Not all olive oil is created equal. The polyphenol strength that makes olive oil interesting to an athlete only exists in genuinely high-phenolic oil — and only a lab can prove it.
Ordinary oil vs. high-phenolic oil.
Most supermarket olive oil carries only a fraction of the polyphenols of a true early-harvest, high-phenolic oil. For an athlete chasing a meaningful daily dose, that difference is the whole point.
High-phenolic oil is defined by measurable compounds — hydroxytyrosol, tyrosol, oleocanthal, oleacein — not by a pretty label or a vague ‘extra virgin’ claim.
A bigger number is not a better number.
The figure on a label depends entirely on how it was measured. If you train on it, you want the honest one.
Lead with HPLC
HPLC physically separates and counts each compound and is the International Olive Council's recognized method — the gold standard for a number you can trust and compare.
Be wary of inflated figures
Some methods can report two to three times higher for the identical oil. A large, round headline number often signals the softer method, not a stronger oil.
Ask for the batch certificate
Real potency is proven per batch, not with a years-old marketing sample. If a brand will not show it, assume the flattering method.
Potency you can actually use.
The reason athletes care about verified strength comes down to how olive polyphenols are studied.
Anti-inflammatory research
Oleocanthal is studied for a natural, ibuprofen-like anti-inflammatory action — and that research is about the compound, so the dose you get depends on real potency.
Oxidative buffering
Hydroxytyrosol is researched for helping buffer exercise-induced oxidative stress — again, amount matters, and amount is what HPLC verifies.
No wasted calories
With Phenolia, the verified polyphenols arrive as a powder in a capsule — full strength, no oil to sip, zero calories.
Phenolia Endurance is coming soon.
The three-source Phenolia base — high-polyphenol olive fruit, olive leaf and Greek Mountain Tea — plus Greek beetroot, a traditional source of dietary nitrates studied in relation to blood flow and stamina. Formulated for endurance athletes and arriving mid-August.
